FREDERICK, Md.--Sophomore setter/outside hitter Kristina Straub of the volleyball team as been selected as the Hood College Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sept. 28.
Straub appeared in all 12 sets in Hood's four matches last week and was instrumental in the Blazers' first victory of the fall against Trinity University (D.C.) Saturday. The native of Burtonsville, Md., set up 15 of Hood's season-high 23 kills and served up 10 aces for her first double-double of the season in a 3-0 sweep over the Tigers. She also collected four digs and put down a kill of her own as Hood remained a perfect 11-0 all-time against its former rivals from the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference.
For the week, Straub tallied 35 assists, 21 digs, 13 aces and nine kills. She currently leads the team in assists (111) and aces (22) and is third in kills (39). She is also one of three Blazers to appear in all 38 sets so far this season.
Hood (1-11, 0-4 CAC) hosts Capital Athletic Conference opponent Salisbury University Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Gambrill Gymnasium.
