FREDERICK, Md.--Senior Jessica Parrish of the women's track and field team has been chosen as the Hood College Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 19.
Parrish dominated the Capital Athletic Conference track & field championships Saturday at the University of Mary Washington, winning four individual events.
Her most impressive performance of the day came in the 100 meter dash, where she bested the field in a CAC record time of 12.29, an NCAA provisional qualifying time. Parrish lowered the previous record set by Mary Washington's Trina Smith from 1998.
The native of Baltimore, Md., also captured the 200 meter dash (26.14), the long jump (16' 3.75") and the triple jump (35' 10.75") to lead Hood to a fourth-place finish in the team standings. Parrish also anchored Hood's record-setting 4x100 relay squad, edging the team from York College (Pa.) on the final leg.
Parrish owns six CAC titles in her two years at Hood after winning the 100 and 200 meters at the 2008 conference meet, earning her CAC rookie of the year honors.
