FREDERICK, Md.--Sophomore Kelsey Blackwell of the women's lacrosse team has been named the Hood College Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 12.
Blackwell scored four goals and assisted on three others in two Hood wins last week. In Hood's first game of the week against Shenandoah University, the native of Gaithersburg, Md., netted her eighth hat trick of the season and assisted on two other Blazer scores in a 13-12 win.
With that performance, Blackwell broke Hood's single-season scoring record, previously held by Cheryl Banks (47) from the 2005 season. Then Friday, Blackwell added her 33rd goal and 19th assist in a 9-2 triumph over Ferrum, bringing her seasonal scoring total to 52 points.
Blackwell also helped Hood break the single-season record for wins with eight, eclipsing the previous record of seven also from 2005.
Hood (8-6, 1-5 CAC) wraps up the regular season Tuesday hosting Capital Athletic Conference foe Stevenson University at 4 p.m. at Thomas Athletic Field.
