FREDERICK, Md.--Junior forward Jen Willison of the women's basketball team has been selected as the Hood College Athlete of the Week for the week ending Nov. 30.
The native of Hancock, Md., broke Hood's single-game scoring record with a 39-point performance Tuesday, helping the Blazers secure their first victory of the 2008-09 season against Wilson College at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School. The previous single-game scoring record was 35 points set by Rita Willis during the 2003-04 season. Willison also set school records for field goals made (17) and attempted (30) as the Blazers went on to rout the Phoenix, 88-31.
She added 14 rebounds for her second double-double of the season and 17th of her career to go along with a career-high five steals and one assist in just 27 minutes of work.
A starter in all five games, Willison currently leads the team in scoring (17.0 ppg) and rebounding (11.2 rpg). She and the Blazers host the Trinity University (D.C.) Tigers Monday evening in Gambrill Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
