FREDERICK, Md. - Alex Sexton '18 has been named the interim head coach of the Hood College men's and women's tennis teams, Director of Athletics Dr. Susan Kolb announced.
"Having Alex, a recipient of the White Blazer award and a tennis alumni, step into the role of interim tennis head coach will be a great addition for our tennis team," Kolb stated. "I am excited to see the passion Alex has for the program shine through his coaching style and positively impact our tennis team."
Sexton finished his career with the Blazers in the spring, earning All-Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth First Team honors, the third all-conference accolade of his career. He finished his career fourth all-time at Hood in singles victories. Sexton was a standout on and off the court, earning multiple nods on the Academic All-MAC, MAC Academic Honor Roll and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's scholar-athlete list. He was honored with the White Blazer Award at Hood, which honors one male and one female student-athlete from the senior class in recognition of outstanding academic accomplishments, significant contributions to the community and excellence in intercollegiate athletics.
"It is an honor to be named head coach of the men's and women's tennis teams at Hood College," said Sexton. "I would like to thank Dr. Susan Kolb for giving me this wonderful opportunity. I would also like to thank the administration and the athletic department for their support during the selection process. I am very excited about returning to coach my old team and helping them reach new heights during the fall season."
He graduated from Hood in May with a degree in psychology.
Both of the Blazers' tennis teams finished 3-9 last season, while the women were in the hunt for the MAC Commonwealth playoffs until the season's final day. Four returners buoy each roster, including All-MAC Commonwealth recipient Megan Carter on the women's side.
