FREDERICK, Md.--Senior captain Matt Haynes of the men's swim team has been selected as the Hood College Athlete of the Week after winning a pair of events Saturday against Salisbury University and Frostburg State University.
After nearly two months since their last intercollegiate competition, the Blazers hosted their first of three home meets at the Huntsinger Aquatic Center. Haynes was a double winner for the Blazers, capturing both sprint free events.
The native of Walkersville, Md., won the 50 free in 23.29, 0.58 seconds ahead of Frostburg's Josh Green. Haynes then captured the 100 free in 52.21, touching out Jamie Overholt of Salisbury by 0.11 seconds. He was also second in the 100 back (1:00.12), narrowly missing top honors by 0.24 seconds, and led off the 200 medley relay which took fourth in 1:53.62.
