Max Riedel of the men’s swimming team and Maggie Tien of the women’s basketball team are the Hood College Athletes of the Week for November 20, 2017.
Riedel won the 1650-yard freestyle race at the Diamond City Invitational this past weekend. He was first in a field of 15 swimmers with a time of 17:09.39, beating the second place swimmer by over seven seconds. Riedel also added top five finishes in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:04.11 and the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:37.94.
Tien was named the Most Outstanding Player at the Dan Greene Memorial Invitational at St. Mary’s (Md.) this past weekend, leading Hood to its first 2-0 start since the 2010-11 season. She finished on Friday with 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a blocked shot. Tien went 4 of 7 from 3-point range in a 77-64 win over the Seahawks on the tournament's first day. She then scored 14 points to go with two assists and two steals in a 69-49 victory over Goucher on Saturday.
