Nate Luscombe from baseball and Sophie Leaman from softball are named Hood College’s Athletes of the Week for March 19, 2018.
Luscombe pitched Hood College's first complete game shutout of the year in the opener of a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth doubleheader before Messiah ended the Blazers' season-opening win streak at 14 games in game two. He pitched a five-hitter and struck out 10 for his third win of the season and his second complete game.
The first day in Tucson, Arizona, Leaman went 4 for 8 at the plate in the two games with two doubles, a home run and six runs batted in. While pitching, she held Dubuque without a baserunner in the first three innings. The next day, she continued her strong trip, going 4 for 6 at the plate with two doubles and two walks. Against RIT, she drove in the only run of the game and pitched a two-hit shutout. She allowed just two hits and two walks, striking out five inside the circle.
In the game against Buena Vista, Leaman pitched a complete game but took the loss. She added a double to her batting line. She recorded an RBI single in the loss against Dickinson. She ended her week with a .435 batting average.
