FREDERICK, Md. - Chris Cook (Mechanicsville, Va. / Lee-Davis) of men's basketball and Rachel Kessler (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) of women's basketball are the Hood College Athletes of the Week for the week ending on January 11.
In a Commonwealth Conference matchup against Alvernia on January 7, Cook led Hood with 16 points and four steals in a 58-53 victory. He nailed a 3-point field goal at the buzzer for a 77-76 win over Widener University on January 10. Cook scored a game-high 25 points on 7-of-16 shooting and sank all nine of his free throw attempts. He was 2-of-5 from 3-point range and had five assists and two steals.
Kessler scored a career-high 18 points and was named to the all-tournament team in a 65-58 win over Wilkes on January 5 in the consolation game of the Gettysburg College Tournament. In a matchup against Alevernia on January 7, she tallied 10 points and four steals for a 60-56 victory. She notched a double-double for Hood with 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Blazers to their third straight win, a 71-58 victory at Widener on January 10. It was the third time in the past six games she set a new career-high in points. She went 10-of-12 at the free throw line and her 12 rebounds matched a career-high.
