FREDERICK, Md. - Chris Gardner (Smyrna, Del. / Cab Calloway School of the Arts) of men's swimming and Ashley Griffin (Littlestown, Pa. / Delone Catholic) of women's swimming are the Hood College Athletes of the Week for the week ending on January 4.
Gardner picked up two individual wins in a conference meet against Albright. He won by 12 seconds in the 200 back with his time of 2:02.24 and finished he 200 free in 1:52.62. He added a third win as part of the 400-yard freestyle relay, the day's final event. He led off and was followed by Lucas Mestas-Nunez (Corpus Christi, Texas / Bluff), Jonathan Collier (Darby, Pa. / Home Schooled) and Dillon Marier (Dover, Del. / Dover) for a time of 3:22.43.
Griffin had two top finishes in the dual meet against Albright. She grabbed Hood's first win of the day in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.89. The sophomore claimed another first with teammates Caitlin Fay (Henrico, Va. / Mills E. Godwin), Anne Lessard (Natick, Mass. / Natick), and Fogarty in the 400 free, turning in a time of 3:56.05.
