FREDERICK, Md. - Chris Shriver (Frederick, Md. / Gov. Thomas Johnson) of the baseball team and Shay Braithwaite (Montgomery Village, Md. / Watkins Mill) of the women's lacrosse team are the Hood College Athletes of the Week for the week ending on April 27.
Shriver became the one of the first two players in school history to record a five-hit game as the Blazers slugged their way to a 17-12 win over Lebanon Valley on April 24. The freshman was a perfect 5-for-5 with a double and four RBIs. He went 4-for-8 in the doubleheader against LVC the next day, leading the Blazers to its first conference series victory. In game one, Shriver sent the teams to extra innings with a two-run, two-out single to tie the score at 5-5 in the seventh, before Hood topped the Dutchmen 7-5. He went 3-for-5 with and drove in two runs in the game. Against Penn St.-Altoona on April 26, he had three hits in game two and knocked in four runs during the two contests. Shriver doubled, tripled and knocked in three runs in the second game of the doubleheader, as Hood clinched the win 8-7.
Braithwaite had 10 goals in three games, as the Blazers went 2-1 on the week. The sophomore set a school record with four free position goals to lead the Blazers past Notre Dame (Md.), 12-9, on April 20. Her six goals in the game tied the team's season-high, and her eight points are the most for a Blazer since 2013. Braithwaite's four free position goals not only set a single game record at Hood, but gave her 11 on the season, another new record. She notched two goals against Rosemont for a 9-8 win on April 23, and added another two goals against Albright on April 25.
