FREDERICK, Md. - Joseph Benton (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) of men's tennis and Alexandra Dystant (Odenton, Md. / Arundel) of women's track and field are the Hood College Athletes of the Week for the week ending on April 5.
Benton continued his strong play, winning both singles and doubles matches against Albright and Southern Virginia. Against the Lions, the sophomore had a 6-1, 6-1 win at fifth singles against the Thomas Werner. At third doubles he paired with Philip Roedig and swept Thomas Werner and Terrence Goode at, 8-0. He led the Blazers to a 5-4 win over Southern Virginia the following day. He topped Parker Monson 6-0 at fifth singles and joined Roedig for a 8-5 victory over Tanner Heyland and Parker Monson at third singles.
Dystant tied the school record for career event wins as the Blazers competed at the Bobcat Invitational. Her two wins were the 17th and 18th individual titles of her career, tying Jessica Parrish for the most in Blazer history. The senior ran a time of 2:27.06 in the 800-meter run, nine seconds faster than the next finisher, to notch her first win of the day. The senior had another win in the 1500m, crossing the finish line at 5:07.92.
