FREDERICK, Md. - Chris Gardner (Smyrna, Del. / Cab Calloway School of the Arts) of men's swimming and Lauren Fogarty (Arnold, Md. / Broadneck) of women's swimming are the Hood College Athletes of the Week for the week ending on February 15.
Gardner swam a NCAA B Cut in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:53.10, placing second at the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships. He set eight records as an individual or a member of a relay, and earned All-MAC in seven events. He set records in 200 medley relay at 1:34.83, the 800 free at 7:14.52, the 400 medley relay (3:30.04), and the 400 free relay (3:10.00). Individually, he broke records in the 200 back prelim (1:53.69), then the 200 back final (1:53.10), along with the 400 individual medley prelim (4:18.75) and again in the final (4:14.77). He earned All-MAC in the 200 medley relay, 800 free relay, 400 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 Back, and the 200 back.
Fogarty set school records eight times at the championships, and earned All-MAC six times. She broke records in the 200 medley relay, in the 400 medley relay (4:09.28), and the 400 free relay at 3:42.87. Individually, she broke records in the 500 free (5:16.51), the 400 IM prelim (4:42.08) and final (4:38.19), along with the 200 fly prelim and final with times of 2:12.52 and 2:10.54, respectively. She earned All-MAC in the 200 medley relay, 800 free relay, 400 medley relay, 400 free relay, 400 IM, and the 200 fly.
