FREDERICK, Md. - Dillon Marier (Dover, Del. / Dover) of men's swimming and Ashley Griffin (Littlestown, Pa. / Delone Catholic) of women's swimming are the Hood College Athletes of the Week for the week ending on February 1.
Marier won two individual events and was part of a winning relay team in a conference victory over Lebanon Valley, 145-53, on January 31. He swam Hood's fastest time this year in the 100 free (48.69), winning by over two seconds. He touched the wall at 1:52.89 in the 200 free, his career-best time. In the 200 free relay, he placed first with teammates Alex Bodine, Chris Gardner and Lucas Mesas-Nunez, turning in a time of 1:30.35.
Griffin was named the Middle Atlantic Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week for the second week in a row after winning each events in which she swam against Lebanon Valley on January 31. She won the 100 free by nearly three seconds, finishing at 55.35. In the 200 free, she touched the wall at 2:01.04, five seconds faster than the next finisher. Both of her times were the fastest by a Blazer this season. She won the 200 free relay with Hayley Rogers, Marissa Pandolfo and Lindsay Cronin, finishing at 1:49.68.
