FREDERICK, Md. - Chris Gardner (Smyrna, Del. / Cab Calloway School of the Arts) of men's swimming and Ashley Griffin (Littlestown, Pa. / Delone Catholic) of women's swimming are the Hood College Athletes of the Week for the week ending on January 25.
Gardner was named the Middle Atlantic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week after his two individual wins and two relay wins in a victory over Misericordia, 139-114. In the 100 back, he placed first with a time of 53.87, the fastest time in the conference. He finished at 1:57.85 in the 200 back, for another first. He had the top finish in the 400-yard medley relay with teammates BJ Daisey, Alex Bodine and Dillon Marier, turning in a time of 3:36.82. His second relay win was in the 400 free relay with Cameron Rogers, Michael Curry and Marier (3:18.13).
Griffin was also named MAC Female Swimmer of the Week from her performances in a conference win over Misericordia, 136-119. She had two individual wins and a relay victory. The sophomore turned in a time of of 25.19 in the 50 free, placing first in the meet and second fastest in the conference. Her second individial top finish was in the 100 free, finishing at 55.58. In the 400 free relay, she finished first at 3:49.72 along with teammates Lauren Fogarty, Sydney Langer and Anne Lessard.
