Drew Demich (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) of men's soccer and Gretchen Whitesell (Myersville, Md. / Middletown) of women's cross country are the Hood College Athletes of the Week for the week ending on September 15.
Demich, a sophomore forward, notched the game winning goal for a 3-2 victory over Penn State-Harrisburg. The teams were tied 2-2 going into double overtime, when he scored during the final second. His goal on the buzzer helped his team to a 2-2 record to start the season. Demich assisted on the Blazers' first goal of the afternoon to finish with three points.
Whitesell picked up her first career win at the Bison Invitational placing first on the 6,000-meter course. Her time of 25:10.34 is the 26th fastest time in Hood history. The senior powered Hood to the team victory, tallying just 26 points. She was also named the Commonwealth Conference Runner of the Week after the performance.
