FREDERICK, Md. - Cameron Cook (Baltimore, Md. / Calvert Hall) of men's basketball and Alexandra Dystant (Odenton, Md. / Arundel) of the women's track & field team are the Hood College Athletes of the Week for the week ending on March 9, 2014.
In the ECAC Southwest Tournament Cook led the Blazers to the
championship game with an 18-point performance against Waynesburg.
His six 3-pointers set a new season-record of 94 made threes. He
finished the game with 1,630 career points, just three shy of a new
record. He also recorded five rebounds, three assists, a
steal and a block.
In the championship game againt Juniata, Cook became the school's all-time scoring leader with 1,643 points. His record breaking basket came with 1:38 remaining in the first half to give him 1,634. He addeed three more 3-point shots to give him 97 this season. Cook finished the game with 13 points, four rebounds, and a steal.
Competing at the ECAC Championships in Boston, Dystant became the first Blazer athlete to place in such a competition. Her time of 3:04.66 was good enough for fifth place, and a new school record. That was close to four seconds faster than the previous standard of 3:08.35, set by Dystant earlier this season.
Over the past month, she has taken off over 10 seconds from the 1,000 record that had been in place since 2010. Dystant ran a 3:11.38 to eclipse the old record of 3:15.35 on February 15th, then followed up the next weekend with a time of 3:08.35.
