Swimmers Chris Gardner (Smyrna, Del. / Cab Calloway School of the Arts) and Lauren Fogarty (Arnold, Md. / Broadneck) are the Hood College Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 25, 2013.
Gardner set a school record in the 400 individual medley, a meet record in the 200-yard backstroke and won both the 100 and 200 back at the Diamond City Invitational. He turned in a time of 4:26.35, nearly two seconds faster than the record set last season by former Blazer and current assistant coach Andrew Bodine. Gardner swam a winning time of 54.88 in the 100 back for the win, a second and a half faster than the second place finisher. He swam a time of 1:57.87 in the first event of the final day of action for the win and meet record.
Fogarty won the final event of the meet, the 1,650 freestyle in 18:52.04 for Hood's only event win of the meet. She was also part of a 400-yard freestyle relay team of Ashley Griffin, Caitlin Fay, and Sydney Langer that swam a school record time of 3:51.68. On Saturday, she had a pair of top five finishes in the individual medleys. She finished fourth in the 400-yard IM in 4:52.01 and took fifth in the 200 IM with her time of 2:19.61.
