FREDERICK, Md.--Junior Nick Aldana of the men's outdoor track and field team and sophomore Heather Silveira of the women's outdoor track and field team have been chosen as the Hood College Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 24.
Aldana, from Myersville, Md., and Middletown High School, won the individual title in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.80 seconds at Saturday's Battleground Relays hosted by the University of Mary Washington. He also ran a leg on the fifth-place 4x100-meter relay team. Aldana is the school record holder in the 110-hurdles.
Silveira, from Baltimore, Md., and Chesapeake High School, broke the school record in the 100-meter hurdles in her first attempt at the event, clocking a time of 16.44 in the prelims. She returned later in the final to lower the record again in 16.30 to finish fifth. Silveira also ran on three victorious relay teams. She anchored the sprint medley relay team to a victory in a record-setting time of 1:57.07. Silveira also ran legs of the 4x100 relay (52.32) and 4x200 relay (1:49.86), which set a new school record and qualified for the Penn Relays.
The track teams will continue their spring seasons at Goucher College Saturday.
