FREDERICK, Md.—Senior Adam Patterson of the men's lacrosse team and freshman Ashley Fourcade of the softball team have been named Hood College athletes of the week for the week ending March 17.
Originally from Sykesville, Md., Patterson has stood out for the Blazers in the team's last three contests. The senior has been a force in the midfield with his speed and vision which are vital to the Blazer attack. Patterson has tallied three goals in the past three games, including two in the Blazers' 11-0 victory over Bryn Athyn. Patterson has also assisted on four goals during this stretch to give him a total of eight points on the season, which is tied for third on the team. In the last three games, Patterson has also been credited with 16 groundballs and three caused turnovers. Patterson's play has really helped Hood over the past few games and the Blazers will hope that the senior can continue his recent run of form.
Fourcade and the softball team took a trip to Clermont, Fla., over spring break and competed in eight games. The squad won six of their eight games and Fourcade was one of the big reasons for the squad's success. The freshman, who attended Richard Montgomery in Rockville, Md., continued her blistering start to the season in Florida. Fourcade accumulated 11 hits, scored seven runs, and knocked in seven RBI in the eight games played. The freshman has upped her hitting streak to 12 games and is batting .474 for the season. Fourcade also leads the team in RBI with 14, which is more RBI than any Blazer player had all of last season. Fourcade will look to continue her hot streak with the Blazers entering conference play in the coming weeks.
The men’s lacrosse team (2-6) returns to action this Thursday when they take on UMass.-Boston at 4 p.m. at Thomas Athletic Field. The softball team hits the road to take on Messiah in Commonwealth Conference action this Saturday. The doubleheader will take place at 1 and 3 p.m.
