FREDERICK, Md.--Junior John Martin of the men's lacrosse team and freshman Alexa Sivic of the softball team have been named Hood College athletes of the week for the week ending March 3.
Martin came to Hood from Garnet Valley in Thornton, Pa., and has had a solid start to the season in goal for the blue-and-grey. The junior contributed 17 saves in the Blazers' two games this week and also had five groundballs to his name. Especially present in the Shenandoah game, Martin showed very adequate instincts and his quick reaction time helped him make some truly great saves. Hood will look to Martin to hopefully continue his progression into an elite goalkeeper in the Commonwealth.
Sivic had a very memorable home debut for Hood, as the freshman played a pivotal role in securing a two-game sweep for the Blazers over the visiting Blue Jays of Elizabethtown. A product of Alleghany in LaVale, Md., Sivic belted three home runs in the two games, including a walk-off shot in the bottom of the ninth inning of game two to secure the sweep for the Blazers. The three home runs were the first of Sivic's career and the freshman finished the double-header with three hits, three runs scored and four RBI to her name. Hood will hope that Sivic can continue her hot streak and continue to pile up the clutch hits as the season marches on.
The men's lacrosse team returns to action this Tuesday when they hit the road to take on Susquehanna University under the lights at 7 p.m. The softball team will take their talents to Clermont, Fla., to compete in eight games over the spring break next week. Hood's first game will take place on March 10 against MacMurray College at 3 p.m.
