FREDERICK, Md—Senior Carter Reitman of the men's tennis team and junior Emily Maerz of the women's tennis team have been named the Hood College Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 15.
Reitman, who resides right here in Frederick, broke the program's career singles wins mark with his 31st victory this past week over his ooponent from York College (Pa.). With the victory, Reitman passed former teammate and current assistant coach Mike Hardman '11. Reitman won his contest 6-3, 6-3 and also had singles victories this week at Capital Athletic Conference rivals Wesley and Stevenson. Reitman has been one of the top players in the CAC this season, ranking second at No. 1 singles with an 8-4 record.
Reitman and the Blazers conclude their regular season with a matchup at Frostburg State University this Tuesday at 4 p.m. and with a win, have a shot at qualifying for the CAC playoffs.
Maerz had a fantastic week as she went 8-0 in her busy week of action. Maerz, from Myersville, went 4-0 this past week in singles matches and 4-0 in doubles to give her a blemish-free week. She helped lead the Blazers to a 3-1 record this past week as Hood defeated Wesley, Trinity, and York to improve to 7-10 overall and 2-4 in the CAC. Maerz was also recognized by the CAC as its co-women's tennis athlete of the week.
The women's tennis team returns to action this Wednesday when they take on Frostburg State in a home matchup set to begin at 4 p.m. A win would clinch the No. 4 seed in the CAC playoffs for the Blazers.
