FREDERICK, Md.--Senior Carter Reitman of the men's tennis team and senior Kati Vu of the women's lacrosse team have been named the Hood College Athletes of the Week for the week ending Feb. 26.
Reitman's solid play at first singles and doubles helped the Blazers earn their first victory of the season over Shenandoah University while Vu moved into sixth place on Hood's career goals list.
A native of Frederick, Reitman ousted SU's Dustan DeMello in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, and also teamed with doubles partner Andrew Blowe to defeat DeMello and Vladimir Daskalov, 8-4. The two wins for Reitman helped Hood prevail, 8-1, for the program's first win over the Hornets in series history. He evened both his singles and doubles records on the year at 2-2. Reitman is Hood's all-time leader in singles wins at the No. 1 spot with 24.
Vu, who hails from Baltimore, recorded a hat trick in Saturday's setback to King's College (Pa.), moving her past Kelli Jessum (1997-99) for sixth place on Hood's career goals chart. With a team-high eight scores so far this season, she now has 69 career goals in 48 games in the blue-and-grey and trails Laura Pitts (2004-06) by five goals for fifth place. Vu is also one assist shy from tying Cheryl Banks (2003-05) for fourth place in career assists (27) and eight total points away from matching Banks' mark of 103, which also lists fourth all-time.
