FREDERICK, Md. – Junior runner Jordan Acton of the men's track and field team and freshman swimmer Haley Rogers of the women's swim team have been tabbed Hood College athletes of the week for the week ending Dec. 4.
Originally from Boonsboro, Md., Acton rewrote Hood's indoor record book this past weekend at the Blazers' first indoor meet of the winter at CCBC-Essex. With a time of 1:30.65, Acton broke the school record for the 600-meter race. Acton's race capped off a very impressive performance for the men’s track and field team as they were able to walk away with seven individual victories at the meet. The track and field team is back in action this Saturday at the Dickinson College Invitational a 10 a.m. start time.
Rogers, a sprinter from Jefferson, Md., was a double winner in the 50 and 100 freestyles, setting seasonal bests in both events. She won the 50 free in 25.48 and the 100 free in 57.90 as the Blazers registered their first dual meet victory of the season over visiting Greensboro College. Rogers also anchored the winning 200 medley relay which finished in a time of 2:00.98. The Blazers next host Notre Dame (Md.) University Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. at the Huntsinger Aquatics Center.
