FREDERICK, Md.--First-year Alex Bodine of the men's swim team and senior Arielle Harding of the women's swim team have been selected as the Hood College Athletes of the Week for the week ending Nov. 6.
Bodine, a Frederick native who came to Hood from nearby Urbana High School, was a double winner in Hood's home opener against Lebanon Valley College, helping the Blazers post their first victory of the season. Bodine claimed top honors in the 100 back (57.45) and the 200 IM (2:15.29) in addition to leading off the first-place 200 freestyle relay (1:35.83). In Hood's Capital Athletic Conference double dual with York College (Pa.) and the University of Mary Washington Friday, Bodine finished second in the 200 back and lowered his season-best by more than five seconds (2:07.50). He also took fourth in the 100 fly (59.47) and fifth in the 200 free (1:56.60).
Harding, who hails from Damascus, Md., was also a double winner Saturday versus the LVC Dutchwomen. Harding captured the 100 breast (1:13.16) and the 50 free (26.68) and was second in the 100 free (59.45) to garner 22 points for Hood. She was also fourth in the 200 free and fifth in the 500 free in Hood's double dual with CAC foes York and Mary Washington.
The Blazer swim teams are idle this week but return to the pool next weekend at the Randolph-Macon Invitational.
