FREDERICK, Md.--Junior Andrew Bodine of the men's swim team and junior forward Stevey Markovich of the women's soccer team have been chosen as the Hood College athletes of the week for the week ending Oct. 23.
Bodine, from Frederick, had a solid showing in Hood's season opening dual meet at Marywood University Sunday. He and Marywood's Anthony Pisano finished dead even for top honors in the 100 free with clockings of 51.05. Bodine nearly captured all three of his individual events; he was the runner-up in the 50 fly by 0.10 seconds (25.02) and in the 200 IM by 0.04 seconds (2:08.98). Additionally, Bodine anchored the 200 free relay squad which finished 0.97 seconds shy of bettering the Hood school record from the 2007 Capital Athletic Conference championships.
The Blazers (0-1) are back in action next weekend when they travel to Marymount University for a Capital Athletic Conference double-dual with the Saints and St. Mary's College (Md.).
Markovich scored both Blazer goals in a 2-1 nonconference triumph over Trinity University (D.C.) Monday, marking Hood's fourth win of the season. The native of Hagerstown beat the Tiger keeper once in each half for the sixth and seventh goals of her Hood career. Markovich is Hood's leader in goals and points in 2011.
The Blazers (4-13) wrap up the fall slate Tuesday at Catholic University.
