FREDERICK, Md.--Senior defender and team captain Conor Prachar of the men's soccer team and freshman middle hitter AshleyPark-Brouse of the volleyball team have been selected as the Hood College athletes of the week for the week ending Sept. 25.
Prachar, a native of Neptune, New Jersey has been a stellar performer for the Blazers throughout his career. A two year captain, Prachar has appeared in 54 games in his Blazer career and has started every one of them. He has been a defensive standout for the Blazers since his arrival in 2008 and has helped anchor the defense for almost every minute of every game. His on and off the field leadership have helped him gain the respect of his teammates and coaches alike. Prachar has two goals in his career, including a goal in a 3-0 victory over Valley Forge Christian this season. He has also tallied two assists in his career for six career points.
After winning three of its first four games to start the 2011 season, Hood's men's soccer team (3-3-1, 0-1-1 CAC) has been held scoreless in its last three outings but looks to right the ship Wednesday night at Shenandoah University. Kick-off between the Blazers and Hornets is slated for 7:30 p.m.
Park-Brouse, from Middletown, Md., had a breakout match against Christendom College Friday, helping the Blazers end a three-match losing skid. Park-Brouse paced the Blazer attack with a career-high 13 kills on 42 attempts. Her 13 kills matched her season total in her previous six matches in the blue-and-grey. In addition, Park-Brouse contributed three assists, six digs and four blocks in the four-set triumph.
On the season, Park-Brouse has compiled 26 kills, five assists, 21 digs, 10 blocks and seven aces.
The Blazer volleyball team (4-5, 0-2 CAC) returns to Gambrill Gymnasium this week for a pair of matches. On Wednesday, Hood hosts Wesley College in a Capital Athletic Conference clash at 7 p.m., followed by a Thursday matchup with regional rival Johns Hopkins University.
