FREDERICK, Md.--Sophomore Emily Maerz of the women's tennis team and junior Carter Reitman of the men's tennis team have been chosen as the Hood College Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 20.
Maerz, a Myersville, Md., native, earned two points for Hood against Capital Athletic Conference rival Stevenson University by winning her No. 1 singles match in addition to teaming with junior Emily Schrodel to emerge victorious at first doubles.
Maerz improved to 5-2 in singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Wendy Ogbolu and together with Schrodel toppled Maura Bernstein and Julie Strong by a count of 8-3 at first doubles.
Reitman, who hails from Frederick, was equally successful at first singles and first doubles against the Mustangs.
Reitman rallied from a 6-4 deficit in the first set to capture the final two sets, 6-1, 6-4 over SU's Ted Cooke at the No. 1 singles spot. He and doubles partner Mike Hardman teamed up to defeat Cooke and Brian Bollman, 8-2, for their second doubles win of the season.
The Blazer women (2-5, 0-2 CAC) and men (0-9, 0-2 CAC) travel to York College (Pa.) Thursday for a CAC match at 3:30 p.m.
