FREDERICK, Md. – Senior attack Kris Miner of the men's lacrosse team and senior attack Kelsey Blackwell of women’s lacrosse team have been chosen as the Hood College Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 13.
The Blazer men went 1-1 last week against St. Joseph’s College (Me.) and Clark University. Miner, a Clinton Township, Mich., native, scored a season-high four goals and added two assists in Hood’s game against St. Joseph’s on March 12. The four-goal effort matched Miner's single-game career-best. He also added a single tally in a narrow 7-6 setback to Clark.
In just four games this season, Miner averages 8.75 shots per game and 2.25 points per game, and is now tied for first with former teammate Sofi Lazar '10 in career goals with 47 goals.
Blackwell, a Gaithersburg, Md., native, became Hood's career scoring leader last week, surpassing former teammate Brandy Noel '10. For her career in the blue-and-grey, Blackwell currently has 94 goals and 42 assists for 136 points. Blackwell set a new career-high with seven goals against Lancaster Bible on March 9, falling one tally shy of matching Hood's single-game school record. She is currently ranked third in all-time goals, trailing Noel by nine.
Through Hood's seven games this season, Blackwell leads the team with 25 points on 17 goals and eight assists.
The Blazer men (2-2) host Centenary (N.J.) on Wednesday and Oswego State on Friday in nonconference action.
Hood's women (3-5) will travel to the College of Notre Dame (Md.) on March 24 for their final nonconference game of the spring.
