FREDERICK, Md.--Sophomore thrower Nalla Tejera of the women's track and field team and senior sprint captain Ola Komolafe of the men's track and field team were selected as the Hood College athletes of the week for the week ending March 6.
Tejera, a native of Hialeah, Fla., placed in all four throwing disciplines at Hood's first outdoor meet of the spring at Salisbury University Saturday. Tejera earned fourth in the discus (29.50 meters), fifth in the shot (10.13 meters) and seventh-place finishes in the javelin (20.26 meters) and hammer (26.68 meters).
Tejera helped the Blazer women capture fourth place out of nine teams competing in the meet.
Komolafe, who hails from Lanham, Md., claimed two individual titles and anchored the victorious 4x100 meter relay team at Salisbury University Saturday. Komolafe posted a time of 11.60 seconds in the 100 meter dash, besting Salisbury's Jacob Adedeji by 0.19 seconds. He then paced the field in the 200 dash in 23.16, 0.28 seconds ahead of runner-up Chris Pezza from Howard Community College. Komolafe teamed with Nick May, George Bucheimer and Nicolas Aldana to top a field of eight teams in the 4x100 meter relay in 44.82 seconds.
The Blazer men placed third of 10 teams at the meet.
Hood returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Coastal Carolina Invitational in Conway, S.C.
