FREDERICK, Md.--First-year Meghan Rose of the women's track and field team and senior Justin Everett of the men's track and field team have been selected as the Hood College athletes of the week for the week ending Jan. 30.
Rose bested a field of five competitors at the Lebanon Valley College Invitational to capture first place in the weight throw with a heave of 37' 3.75". She outdistanced Goucher College's Abby Cooney by nearly two feet for the top spot. Rose, a native of Baltimore, Md., began her day by taking second in the shot put with a toss of 36' 4.25", just 2' 2.75" short of the leader, Kelly Carioto of Catholic University. Rose is in her first season as a member of the Blazer track and field team and already rewrote the school record in the shot put at Dickinson College on Dec. 4.
Everett, Hood's school record holder in the long jump and the triple jump, won the long jump in a field of 14 competitors at the Lebanon Valley College Invitational and extended his record to 20' 11.75". The native of Woodbine, Md., returned later in the meet to place third out of eight participants in the triple jump with a leap of 39' 9.75".
The Blazer women's and men's track and field teams continue their indoor season Saturday at the Frank Colden Invitational at Ursinus College.
