FREDERICK, Md.--Senior Kristen Kucharski of the women's swim team and sophomore Andrew Bodine of the men's swim team have been selected as the Hood College Athletes of the Week for the week ending Jan. 23.
Both swimmers helped the Blazers earn nonconference victories over Gallaudet University at the Huntsinger Aquatics Center Saturday. Both the men and women chalked up dual meet victories in consecutive meets for the first time since the 2006-07 season.
Kucharski, from Bear, Del., paced the field in the 1000 free (12:31.59) and the 100 free (1:02.72) and was second in the 50 free by the closest of margins (28.78). She now has six individual wins to her credit on the season.
Bodine, who earns his second weekly selection of the season, was a winner in the 200 IM (2:08.80) and the 100 free (51.91). His time in the 200 IM was the fastest by a Hood swimmer this season and was a little more than three seconds off school record pace. The Urbana High School product also led off the winning 200 free relay (1:36.10), which narrowly missed setting a new school standard as well.
Hood hosts its final home meet of the season Saturday against Juniata and Penn State-Altoona at 2 p.m. The Blazers will recognize seniors Kyle Atras, Robbie Ennis, Kristen Kucharski and Carlin Rabie before the meet.
