FREDERICK, Md.--First-year forward Cameron Cook of the men's basketball team has been chosen as the Hood College Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 2.
Cook represented the Blazers on the all-tournament team at the Randolph-Macon College Coaches Classic sponsored by Kay Jewelers Dec. 30 and 31.
A native of Baltimore and product of Calvert Hall High School, Cook started both contests at the tournament and racked up 27 points while shooting .600 from the field and .583 from long-range. Cook enjoyed one of his finest shooting efforts of the season Friday against Averett University when he poured in a career-high 22 points, including six three-point baskets, to lead the Blazers to a 73-60 victory. Cook shattered his previous career-best scoring effort of 15 points which he achieved twice previously.
Cook is one of two Blazers to start all 11 games this season and moved up to third on the squad in scoring, averaging 11.7 points per game. He leads the team and is tied for sixth in the Capital Athletic Conference in three-pointers with 20.
Cook and the Blazers jump back into CAC action Wednesday at Stevenson University (3-8, 1-3 CAC). The two league foes clash at 8 p.m. as Hood (6-5, 2-2 CAC) looks to avenge a narrow 65-64 defeat at the buzzer from Nov. 20 in the Pride of Maryland Tournament.
