FREDERICK, Md.--Sophomore guard Dyanna Prater of the women's basketball team has been selected as the Hood College Athlete of the Week for the week ending Nov. 28.
Prater, a Gaithersburg High School product, averaged 12.5 points, 7.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Blazers.
On Tuesday, Prater registered her first collegiate double-double with team-highs of 15 points and 10 assists in a 71-51 drubbing of the College of Notre Dame (Md.) Gators. That win pushed Hood's season-opening win streak to four, the longest to start a season since 2001-02.
Prater nearly recorded a triple-double by hauling in a team-best eight rebounds in addition to picking off five steals in 30 minutes of action.
The point guard then connected on 4-of-9 from the floor, including a three-pointer, and finished with 10 points against Shenandoah University Sunday in an 80-51 defeat. She reached double figures in scoring for the fourth time in Hood's first five games.
A starter in each of Hood's five games this season, Prater leads the team in assists (28), steals (19) and minutes played (33.6), and ranks second in scoring (12.4 ppg).
The Blazers (4-1) open up Capital Athletic Conference play Wednesday when they journey to Salisbury University for a 6 p.m. tip with the Sea Gulls (2-2, 1-0 CAC). Salisbury knocked off Stevenson University in overtime, 68-60, in its CAC opener last Tuesday.
