FREDERICK, Md.--First-year Dan Jacobs of the men's cross country has been named the Hood College athlete of the week for the week ending Oct. 3.
Jacobs became the program's fastest 8K runner ever Saturday at Salisbury University when he crossed the finish line in 26:58. The native of Hillsborough, N.J., also became the first Blazer runner to finish an 8K race in under 27 minutes. His record-setting time bested the previous mark held by William Andrews '10 by 33 seconds.
Jacobs, who has been Hood's top finisher in five races this season, finished 43rd out of 183 participants in Saturday's Don Cathcart Invitational, which included all but two Capital Athletic Conference schools as well as team champion East Stroudsburg University, a Division II program.
The Hood men's cross country team will have two weeks to train before their next race, which will take place at Utica Park in Frederick on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m.
