FREDERICK, Md.--Junior Colleen McCarrick of the field hockey team and sophomore goalkeeper Will Lane have been named Hood College Co-Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sept. 26.
Both student-athletes were instrumental in helping their repsective teams secure notable victories at home on Saturday.
McCarrick tallied four points with a goal and two assists in the Blazers' first victory of 2010 over St. Vincent College, while Lane made a season-high 12 saves in Hood's narrow 1-0 triumph over Capital Athletic Conference rival Marymount University.
McCarrick, a native of Myersville, is in her first season with the field hockey team and had one of her best games of the young season against the Bearcats. The midfielder had a hand in all three Blazer goals on the afternoon. McCarrick picked up assists on scores by teammates Nicole Killmer and Rachel Gannon, then pocketed one of her own, her first in the blue-and-grey, in the 60th minute to cap the scoring.
The field hockey team (1-6, 0-3 CAC) returns to action Monday hosting Stevenson University in a CAC matchup at 4:30 p.m.
Lane, who hails from Walkersville, had a stellar outing in the net, recording his third career shutout to help the Blazers defeat the Saints for the first time ever. Lane finished two saves shy of equaling his career best from his rookie season and made several diving stops to help keep MU out of the net. He collected six saves in each half to improve his record in goal to 3-4 on the year. Lane is currently fifth in the CAC in saves with 38 and owns a 1.41 goals-against average.
The men's soccer team (3-5, 1-2 CAC) is currently in sixth place in the CAC standings and steps out of conference play Tuesday to host regional foe Shenandoah University at 3:30 p.m.
