FREDERICK, Md.--Capital Athletic Conference individual champions Chris DiGangi and Jess Parrish share this week's Hood College athlete of the week award for their superior performances at the conference meet Saturday at Salisbury.
DiGangi, a sophomore vaulter and jumper, successfully defended his pole vault crown with a leap of 14' 6", setting a new school record in the process. The sophomore from Brick, N.J., outdistanced runner-up Mark Ksiezopolski from York College (Pa.) by 6 1/4" to bring home 10 first-place points for the Blazer men's squad. DiGangi also placed fifth in the high jump with a leap of 5' 10".
Parrish, a senior from Baltimore, also garnered an individual crown as the fastest woman in the CAC. She claimed her third straight 100 meter title with a dash of 12.62 seconds, edging Salisbury's Amanda Zyzak by 0.10 seconds in the championship heat. The 2009 CAC Female Athlete of the Year also scored in the long jump (third place) and triple jump (fourth place) in addition to anchoring the first Hood College relay team to earn all-CAC recognition (4x100).
Hood has two outdoor meets left on the docket; this Saturday at Shippensburg University and next Saturday at York College (Pa.).
