Casey Dunn and Nalla Tejera Split Hood Athlete of the Week Accolades

FREDERICK, Md.--Freshman infielder Casey Dunn of the softball team and freshman throwing specialist Nalla Tejera of the women's track and field team earned Hood College co-athletes of the week for the week ending March 28.

Dunn had a spectacular weekend at the plate, hitting .714 (10-for-14) from the leadoff spot in addition to scoring six runs and knocking in four more as the Blazers posted a 2-2 record on the week.

Her most impressive outing was Saturday in game one of the series with Wesley College. The native of Clark, N.J., went 4-for-4 with two doubles and a triple, four RBI and a pair of runs scored. She then collected two more base hits, drew a walk and scored three more runs in the nightcap in a 13-0 rout of the Wolverines. Then, opposite nationally ranked Salisbury, Dunn was 4-for-7 at the dish and stole two bases in the twinbill.

During the four-game homestand, Dunn raised her batting average from .263 to a team-best .385. She also leads the team in runs (13), hits (20), doubles (5), triples (1) and RBI (7).

Hood (7-9, 2-2 CAC) is currently in fourth place in the CAC and hosts second-place York College (Pa.) (22-2, 3-1 CAC) Wednesday in a pivotal conference series at 3 p.m.

Tejera set personal records in all four of her events Saturday at the Goucher College Invitational. The native of Hialeah, Fla., picked up a pair of runner-up finishes and set two school records in the shot (10.81 meters) and discus (30.22 meters) in addition to hitting PRs in the javelin (19.24 meters) and the hammer throw (24.88 meters). Hood finished fourth in the team standings with 98.5 points, 16 of which came from Tejera's performances.

The Blazers next travel to Millersville University for an outdoor meet beginning at 9:40 a.m.
