FREDERICK, Md.--Senior Jessica Parrish of the women's track and field team has been named the Hood College athlete of the week for the week ending March 7.
Parrish won three events for Hood in the Blazers' first outdoor meet of the season at Salisbury University.
Parrish paced the field in the long jump in a new school record leap of 17' 4.75". She also took first in the triple jump (10.52 meters). The 2009 NCAA qualifier then anchored the 4x100 relay team to a new school record clocking of 51.19. Emma Arneson, Megan Cahill and Jessica Talley joined Parrish on that squad.
Parrish's impressive track and field resume includes being named the 2008 Capital Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year, the 2009 CAC Athlete of the Year and becoming the first Hood student-athlete to earn a trip to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships last spring. The Baltimore native won four events at last year's CACs and qualified for nationals in the 100-meter dash.
The women's and men's track and field teams journey to York, Pa., Saturday for their second outdoor meet of the season at York College (Pa.).
