FREDERICK, Md.--Freshman goalkeeper Will Lane of the men's lacrosse team has been selected as this week's Hood College Athlete of the Week.
Lane had a spectacular week between the pipes for the Blazers. In a narrow 7-5 setback to Gwynedd-Mercy College Wednesday, Lane earned his first collegiate start in the net and turned away a career-high 16 Griffin shot attempts. Then Saturday in Hood's home opener against Shenandoah University, Lane saved 11 Hornet shots, including six in the final quarter in which he kept the visitors off the scoreboard entirely. Hood went on to score five unanswered goals and recorded their first win in program history over Shenandoah.
After the Blazers' first three games, Lane has logged 150 minutes in goal and owns a 7.20 goals-against average. The local product from Walkersville, Md., has also racked up 29 saves for a .617 save percentage.
Lane and the Blazers (1-2) will look to make it two-in-a-row Wednesday hosting Penn State Abington at 3:30 p.m. at Thomas Athletic Field.
