FREDERICK, Md.--Freshman guard Dyanna Prater of the women's basketball team has earned the first Hood College Athlete of the Week award for 2010.
Prater matched her career-high in scoring Saturday against Capital Athletic Conference rival Stevenson University. The native of Gaitherbsurg, Md., connected on 6-of-12 from the field, including 3-of-7 from behind the arc, for a team-high 17 points. Prater also contributed four rebounds, three steals, a pair of assists and was credited with a blocked shot in 32 minutes of work.
Hood's starting point guard in all eight games in her inaugural collegiate season, Prater leads the team in steals (21) and assists (19) and is third on the team in scoring (8.9 ppg).
Prater and the Blazers (2-6, 0-3 CAC) host the first of three straight home games tonight at the Odom Fitness Center at Fort Detrick. Hood and Norwich University (7-3) square off at 6 p.m. in the first game of a doubleheader with the Blazer men's team.
