FREDERICK, Md.--Freshman goalkeeper Will Lane of the men's soccer team has been selected as the Hood College Athlete of the Week for the week ending Nov. 1.
Hood put up a valiant fight in its regular season finale against
the York College (Pa.) Spartans, who have advanced to four straight
NCAA tournaments. Despite being outshot 14-1 in the first period,
Lane and the Blazers did not surrender a Spartan goal, becoming one
of only nine opponents (three in the CAC) to make that claim this
Lane matched his career-high with 14 saves and allowed three goals, the fewest Hood has surrendered to the Spartans in five meetings (matches the effort of the 2006 squad in the CAC tournament).
Lane's 71 saves in his 10 games rank fifth on Hood's single-season chart while his .732 save percentage is third all-time.
