FREDERICK, Md.--Freshman Brittany Tribett of the volleyball team has earned Hood College Athlete of the Week honors for the week ending Oct. 11.
The setter from Smithsburg, Md., started all 16 sets for the Blazers in a 2-3 week. She compiled 10 kills, 76 assists, nine aces, 38 digs and three blocks in Hood's five matches.
Tribett started the week by setting up 11 Blazer kills in a three-set defeat at the hands of the Stevenson University Mustangs Tuesday. She then tallied two kills and set up five others in a three-set setback at Goucher College the following evening.
But Saturday, Tribett helped the Blazers snap their six-match losing streak and register a three-set sweep over the Trinity University (D.C.) Tigers with three kills, four digs, seven aces and 12 assists. She also served 19 straight points in one set in the decisive triumph.
In Hood's next match against Penn State Harrisburg, Tribett helped Hood avenge a five-set loss to the Nittany Lions from last month with a career-high 34 assists in a four-set win. That victory marked the first time since October 2006 that the Blazers registered consecutive wins and also helped Hood eclipse its win total from 2008.
The Blazers then squared off against Shenandoah University in their final match of the afternoon and despite a double-double from Tribett (14 assists, 11 digs), fell in three sets. Her 11 digs matched her season-high.
Tribett currently leads the team in assists (153) and ranks fourth in aces (14) and fifth in digs (83).
Hood (3-14, 0-5 CAC) travels to Salisbury University Thursday to take on the first-place Sea Gulls (19-4, 4-0 CAC) at 7 p.m.
