FREDERICK, Md.--Sophomore Jacquie LeMar of the field hockey team has been selected as the Hood College Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sept. 20.
LeMar scored two game-winning goals for the Blazers last week in wins over Goucher College and St. Vincent College.
The midfielder from Germantown, Md., started the week by notching her first career goal with 3:14 left in the half on a penalty corner. Senior Brandy Noel, who had scored three minutes earlier to knot the game at 1-1, crossed the ball to LeMar at the top of the arc and she drilled her shot past Gopher keeper Ellie Brown to give Hood a 2-1 lead heading into halftime. That score would stand as the final margin as the Blazers secured their first win of 2009.
Then Saturday, LeMar was the hero once again, cashing in on a penalty stroke 5:15 into the second overtime period to propel Hood to a thrilling 1-0 triumph over the Bearcats.
LeMar and the Blazers return to action Monday hosting Shenandoah University in a nonleague match at 4:30 p.m. at Thomas Athletic Field.
