FREDERICK, Md.--Junior Cara Jordan of the women's soccer team has been selected as the first Hood College Athlete of the Week for the 2009-10 athletic year.
Jordan played an instrumental role in Hood's two victories last week. The midfield/forward from Smithsburg, Md., scored four goals and assisted on a fifth in a 2-1 week for the Blazers.
She started the 2009 week by scoring both goals in a 2-0 win over Goucher College Tuesday. Jordan then assisted on sophomore Jessica Devine's tally within the first 3:25 of Thursday's Capital Athletic Conference tilt with York College (Pa.). That tally marked the first time Hood registered a goal against the Spartans since the series began in 1995. Jordan wrapped up the week with her second two-goal effort in three games in a 10-0 romp over Gallaudet University Sunday. Her two tallies came just 5:18 apart in the first half.
Jordan now has 57 career points in her two-plus seasons in the blue and gray, good for second all-time in program history. Additionally, her 22 goals are one shy of tying former Blazer Jamie Summers for second on the career list. Jordan is also just one assist away from tying Tamara Maggard for the all-time lead in assists (14). She has led the Blazers in goals and points each of her two seasons with the team.
The Blazers next travel to CAC rival St. Mary's College (Md.) Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. match. Wednesday's contest will be a rematch of the 2008 CAC tournament semifinal.
