Stanley Captures First Place in 5K Dual Meet
FREDERICK, Md.--Senior Jessica Stanley of the Hood College women's cross country team took top honors in the 5K dual meet with Southern Virginia University Saturday morning on Hood's campus.
Stanley outdistanced runnner-up Leila Schultz and a pack of three other SVU runners by 44.09 seconds with a clocking of 22:53.10. Freshman Erica Burgess (24:22.34, sixth) and senior Emily Brownlee (24:36.79, seventh) ran No. 2 and 3, respectively, for the Blazers.
Juniors Sam Smith and Kristina Coggins along with senior Janelle Dionne also completed the race around Hood's campus. Smith came in 13th in 27:00.04, Coggins was 16th in 33:40.54 and Dionne checked in with a time of 37:20.98.
Southern Virginia won the meet by 15 points over the Blazers (22-37).
Hood has two weeks off to prepare for the Capital Athletic Conference championships which it will host at Heritage Farm Park in Walkersville Saturday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m.
