Blazer Women Finish 12th at Don Cathcart Invitational

SALISBURY, Md.--The Hood College women's cross country team placed 12th of 15 teams competing at the Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury University at Winter Place Park.
Senior Danielle Sgro was Hood's top finisher, placing 24th in 23:54, a new senior school record for the Blazer women's program. Her mark lowered Kelly Buriak's record of 24:11 from the 2005 season and was only 11 seconds off her own overall school record.
Kelly Keyser had a personal best (30:20) by nearly three minutes over her best time from last year. Jessica Stanley (27:03), Maria Moss (27:52) and Sam Smith (29:55) rounded out the Hood scorers.
"We are not quite where we need to be," said head coach Brent Ayer. "However, everyone is finally healthy and we have a three-week break to train before our next meet. I think we will be ready for the meets where we wanted to race well. We got a snap-shot view of the Capital Athletic Conference today, as all competing programs except for York were present. We were a little flat, but we worked very hard last week, as we will for the next three."
Hood next competes in the Market Street Mile Oct. 4.
