Women Show Steady Improvement at York Cross Country Invitational

Maria Moss and Sarah Morris

YORK, Pa.--All six runners who competed for the Hood College women's cross country team lowered their times, helping the Blazers post a fourth place finish out of eight teams at the York College (Pa.) Invitational Saturday.

Danielle Sgro earned an individual award for the 17th time in 30 races in a Hood uniform with her sixth place showing (21:02). The freshman tandem of Maria Moss (22:36) and Sarah Morris (22:37) finished 16th and 17th, respectively. Moss lowered her seasonal best by 58 seconds while Morris shaved 84 seconds off her top time.

Jessica Stanley ran her first race of the season and placed 21st in 22:58. Sam Smith and Kelly Keyser also knocked over a minute off their seasonal bests to round out the Hood contingent.

"Everyone showed steady improvement today," said head coach Brent Ayer. "This is the first time we've beaten Goucher's women. It's still early in the season and there's still plenty of room for improvement but this was a very promising outing, some solid leaps all around."

Hood will travel to Salisbury University next Saturday for the Sea Gulls' 10 a.m. meet.
