(Carlisle, PA)- The Dickinson College men's cross country team captured the team title at its own Long Course/Short Course Invitational. The Red Devils won the 8100 meter race and placed third in the 4000 meter event to finish with 43 combined points. Division II Lockhaven placed second with 86 points.
The Red Devil men captured third, fourth and fifth in the 8100 race, led by senior Evan Sparling (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spakenkill) with a time of 26:36.
Sophomore Nick Karwoski (Hollis, NH/Groton) and first-year Brian Krusell (Newington, CT/Newington) crossed in 26:52 and 26:53, respectively. Sophomore Brandon Jones (Trenton, NJ/Holy Ghost Prep) was 15th, coming in at 27:45.
The Red Devils ranked third in the 4K race with some outstanding individual performances. Four runners finished under 13 minutes in the race to break into the school's top ten for course times. Previously only three Red Devils had finished under 13 minutes.
Sophomore Greg Leak (Chadds Ford, PA/Unionville) led the way, finishing seventh overall with a time of 12:36. First-year Kent Pecora (Chapel Hill, NC/Chapel Hill) crossed the line 11th in 12:40, followed by Tom Morgon (E. Bridgewater, MA/E. Bridgewater) in 13th with a 12:44.
Andy Gregor (Pittsburgh, PA/Quaker Valley) was the fourth Devil under 13:00 with a time of 12:54.
Division II Shippensburg won the team title in the 4k with Johns Hopkins second and the Devils third.
Dickinson travels to the Gettysburg Invitational next Saturday.
