FREDERICK, Md.--Hood College head volleyball coach Jaime Pryor has added two recruits to her 2012 roster.
Addie Roop (pictured right, above), a libero from Francis Scott Key High School, and Sophie Whalen (pictured right, below), a setter from Queen Anne's County High School, will play volleyball for the Blazers this fall.
Roop, who transferred to Hood after a year at Salisbury University, led the FSK Eagles to three straight county championships from 2007-09 and a state title in 2009. She was a second team all-county and all-conference honoree in 2009 and a first-team selection in 2010 after leading Carroll County in digs per set (6.2).
"Addie was a standout libero who will strengthen our defensive game," said Pryor. "She also played with and against many of our current players, so she will fit into the team well."
A three-sport athlete at Queen Anne's who also participated in tennis and cheerleading, Whalen was the recipient of the Master of Sports award, presented to athletes who letter in three varsity sports in one school year. She was also named her team's offensive MVP as a junior and captained the varsity team as a senior.
"Sophie was a four-year setter who has a great personality that will mesh well with our team," Pryor added. "She has great leadership skills that will make her a great asset to our team in the setting position."
Pryor and the Blazers posted a 9-15 overall record in 2011 in Hood's final year in the Capital Athletic Conference. Hood will compete in the Middle Atlantic Conferences in 2012 and the volleyball team will play its first season in Hood's BB&T Arena this fall.
